Community Health Centers are not alone in marking their 50th year -
Medicaid is also turning 50!
Community Health Centers were among the first to embrace these important programs. In many ways, the history and success of community health centers is intertwined with Medicaid and Medicare. Medicaid saves lives and increases the health care stability of our communities. Half of the babies born in this country had their births covered by Medicaid. The program fills the gaps in health coverage that frequently occur in people's lives and helps them transition through life events that would otherwise leave them uninsured.

In 2015, America’s Health Centers will celebrate 50 years of success in expanding access to quality and affordable primary and preventive healthcare services to millions of uninsured and medically underserved people nationwide. Our strong and enduring health center mission is a testament to the important past, present and future role of health centers in the nation’s healthcare system. Health centers began as part of the nation’s War on Poverty. Today, they have grown into the largest and most successful primary care system in the country.

"America's Health Centers- Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future." As local community owned and operated businesses, Health Centers serve over 23 million Americans through more than 9,200 delivery sites in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories. One in every fifteen people living in the United States depends on their services. Health Centers deliver high quality, cost effective, accessible care while serving as critical economic engines helping to power local economies.
In addition to their long history as health care homes to millions, Health Centers are also proud to celebrate 50 years of service and continue to be ranked among the highest quality and cost effective care providers in the nation. Health Centers provide their services to all people, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status.
Each year we set aside three days during NHCW to recognize special populations served by Health Centers.
This year we are celebrating
- Public Housing Health Centers Day (Tuesday, 8/11)
- Health Care for the Homeless Day (Wednesday, 8/12)
- Farmworker Health Day (Thursday, 8/13)
